Carrier Ethernet
Ethernet is well known for its ease of use and cost effectiveness and is rapidly gaining acceptance in Carrier networks. While traditional SONET/SDH based technology in carrier networks is replaced by Ethernet, suitable services OAM support (ITU-Y.1731 and IEEE 802.1ag) is needed to be supported in the network. Also, in the core of the network, MPLS being the predominant technology is being positioned as the basis for Provider Backbone Transport (PBT) technology, in addition to IEEE standards relating to Provider Bridges and Provider Backbone Bridges.
